Start labeling your boxes
Add a room, box number, contents and status badges. Your label updates live, and every box is saved on this device so you can keep going while you pack.
Try Example loads 4 sample boxes so you can test the PDF without entering your own information.
Your labels are created in your browser. Box contents, rooms and notes stay on this device — they are never uploaded, never published, never sent to analytics or AI services. See all free PassportSelf tools.
How to Label Moving Boxes
Label the top and at least one side of every box with the room, a box number and a short contents summary — large enough to read from several feet away.
Movers stack boxes, so a label only on the top disappears. Print two labels per box, or one for the top and one for the side. Use the same room names throughout so boxes sort themselves at the new place.
What Should Be on a Moving Box Label?
Room, box number, contents, destination (optional), notes such as “Open first night”, and any status badges like FRAGILE, HEAVY or THIS SIDE UP.
Keep the room and box number biggest. Contents can be smaller text — it matters when you are unpacking, not when the box is being carried.
How to Number Moving Boxes
Use one running sequence (Box 1, 2, 3…) for a simple count, or number by room (Kitchen 1, Kitchen 2, Bedroom 1…) when different people unpack different rooms.
The label maker numbers boxes automatically in either style and lets you override any single number. Keep the numbered list — it doubles as your inventory.
How to Color Code Moving Boxes
Assign one color per room, put it on every label for that room, and tape a room color guide near the front door of the new home.
Color helps from across the room; text confirms it up close. Never rely on color alone — the tool always prints the room name, and the Black & White mode uses stripes and borders instead of ink colors.
How to Label Fragile Boxes
Mark fragile boxes on every visible side with a large FRAGILE badge and add THIS SIDE UP or DO NOT STACK when it matters.
Pack fragile items in smaller boxes so they are lighter and less likely to be stacked under heavy ones. Add “Open first” for kitchen essentials you need on day one.
Moving Box Inventory Tips
Keep a simple list of box number → room → contents; the label maker's box list is that inventory, saved on your device.
Turn on the optional QR code to encode the box details directly into the label — scan with any phone camera to read the contents without opening the box. No account or website is involved.
Printable Moving Box Labels
Choose 4×6 label stock, or Letter paper with 1, 2 or 4 labels per page. The PDF keeps exact physical sizes — print at 100%, not “Fit to Page”.
Quarter-sheet labels (4 per page) suit most boxes. Half-sheet and full-page labels are readable from far away and work well for wardrobe boxes, appliances and storage units.
Moving Day Organization Tips
Print a Moving Day Room Guide (color → room → destination) for the movers, stage “Open First” boxes last on the truck, and keep essentials with you.
Label boxes as you seal them — standing next to the box with your phone is the fastest way to keep the list accurate.
